There's a new way to share a Facebook message with your friends! Yesterday Facebook introduced it’s free 'self-destructing' messaging app -- Slingshot. The app is now available in the U.S. for iPhones and Android smart phones after a false start last week. The highly anticipated app is similar to Snapchat (which turned down a $3 billion offer from Facebook in 2013), however, it definitely has its differences.

Perhaps the main difference to note is that Snapchat allows users to send photos or videos to friends and set a time for which those photos/videos will disappear. Slingshot requires users to send a photo/video in order to 'unlock' the content they have received. The photos/videos disappear after viewing (though users can auto-save their own content.) This tactic will add early adopters quickly, but will they stick around?

At this point, it is too early to tell how Slingshot can best be used for brand marketing. However, as always, Thin Pig Media will stay on top of this evolving app and alert clients if Slingshot turns into a smart marketing platform in the future.
